Advice matters
Does your health insurance need a health check?

If you have health cover in place, when was the last time you reviewed it? It’s a question worth asking yourself, from time to time.

Taking out health insurance is a key step to protecting your financial future from the unexpected. But as your life unfolds and evolves, so may your insurance needs. So here are some key reasons to review your health cover regularly.

Your needs have changed

Did you set up your health insurance years ago and have never reviewed it since? Your circumstances may be different now. The reality is, our lives often tend to change faster than we may realise, even in the space of just a year.

And that’s why, generally speaking, our SHARE advisers invite clients to review their cover annually. It may sound a little too often for you, but the purpose of having annual reviews with an adviser is to ensure you’re on top of things and can make adjustments when needed.

On top of this, it’s a good idea to review your cover whenever something significant happens in your life. Common life events that can trigger the need for a review are having a baby, paying off debt, changing jobs, starting a business, buying a house, and becoming an empty nester. But of course, this is not an exhaustive list: everyone’s life path is different.

If you’d like your insurance to keep pace with you, the key thing is to keep your cover top of mind. Checking in with your SHARE adviser on a regular basis, and whenever you hit a key life milestone, gives you the opportunity to assess what you need and make tweaks along the way.

You’d like to refresh your memory

Do you need a refresher of what you’re covered for? This is another good reason to review your health cover regularly. Medical insurance policies come with different features and options, so there’s a lot of detail to digest and remember.

Even if you’re familiar with your policy, having a review meeting with your SHARE adviser may reveal some benefits you weren’t aware of. These can include things you’re covered for, but also member benefits and discounts that your insurer may offer to policyholders (depending on the provider).
